Cover Names in a Chat Screenshot
Names and profile pictures in a chat are not found for you. Here is how to cover them by hand, and what is easy to miss. New to this? Start on the made-up chat from "Try it on this chat" on the home page.
1. Screenshots are covered by hand
Only faces are found automatically. When a photo looks like a chat screenshot, the editor asks you to cover it by hand instead of looking for faces. To search the pictures inside it anyway, press "Look for faces anyway". Snapping a whole set also skips chat screenshots.
2. Go through names, pictures, then numbers
Pick the cover tool, swipe or drag over the spot, then choose what goes on it from the cover packs. Anonymous labels suit names and stickers suit profile pictures. Give one person one label and the conversation still reads clearly.
For addresses, phone numbers and account numbers, use striped tape or a black box. A solid cover is safer for text than mosaic or blur.
3. Check the spots that get missed
Look at the chat title, names and nicknames inside messages, quoted replies, photo and map previews, and any notification caught in the shot. Your own name and picture are easy to forget.
People can still be recognised from how they write or what they say. Crop out what you do not need, and think once more about whether the chat is yours to post.
4. Take one more look before saving
In the result review, check the full image and its edges. Zoom in to see that the end of a long name is not poking out of its label. Only the reviewed copy can be saved, copied or shared, and any later edit needs a new review.
